elementary’s Cassidy James Blaede shared some insight into the development of the upcoming major release of the elementary OS desktop operating system, Juno.
According to the elementary OS developer, the next release of the Ubuntu-based operating system is getting a new versioning scheme, updated kernel and graphics stacks, as well as the latest GTK+ technologies.
We already knew that “Juno” would be the codename of the next major elementary OS release, but it now looks like the version number was changed from 0.5 to 5.0, which, apparently, won’t mean anything to regular users.
As previously announced, elementary OS 5.0 “Juno” will be based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), which is due for release on April 26, 2018. Unfortunately, Juno has no release date set at the moment of writing, but it should arrive after the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
